The Monks of Estillyen – Brother Plot

by | May 3, 2013

Monk Plot is an exceedingly joyous individual. Smiling, beaming, and humming are the traits that carry him about on the Isle of Estillyen.

Like Barnabas of old, Plot possesses the gift of encouragement and dispenses it freely. Plot views himself as a pilgrim passing through life—one who has a calling to build up his fellow pilgrims. One of his favorite and oft-quoted verses of Scripture is Romans 12:11: “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.”

He is also a poet, to which the following lines from Lips Unclean will attest:

Lips, lips, the pair, oh how we adore our place upon the face.
Below the eyes and nose, above the chin we sit.
To us words rise, as they receive their call.
We clothe them with form, propel them to function.
Through us they all must pass, whether it be to bless or bite,
for wrong or for right.

Plot’s two keen hobbies—gardening and cooking—could not be more suitably aligned. He greets both with equal passion. An invitation to Dairy House for brunch, lunch, or any occasion is a culinary treat. Plot has a skill for marrying ingredients that, as he puts it, “long to be together.”

Like all the Estillyen monks, Plot adores pets. His current recipient of affection is Tremble the rabbit, who, on stormy nights, sleeps in the kitchen of Dairy House in a wooden box near the stove.
